The heritage of Koru.

The koru is the Māori symbol of the unfurling silver fern frond: new beginnings, growth and perpetual progression.

For our Founder, Matilda Rerekura, it is also personal: the koru reflects her Māori heritage and the roots her family has built in the UAE. It shapes how we work: rooted in integrity, always moving forward, and bridging mature Western healthcare talent pools with the expanding healthcare ecosystem of the GCC.

Matilda Rerekura is the Founder and Managing Partner of Koru Advisory, directing the firm’s international advisory practice, commercial strategy, and multi-jurisdictional client engagements across the Middle East, the Asia-Pacific, and the UK. With an extensive background across corporate governance, executive enterprise management, and cross-border commercial structuring, Matilda leads the delivery of boutique advisory services to sovereign health entities, private healthcare groups, and international workforce operators.

As Chief Executive, Matilda oversees Koru Advisory’s overall business operations, high-value consulting contracts, strategic partnerships, and global growth mandate. Under her leadership, the firm architects bespoke human capital frameworks and international market-entry solutions, positioning Koru Advisory as a premier cross-border consultancy bridging mature healthcare markets with high-growth regional hubs.

Simon David Thomas

Senior Practice Advisor, Healthcare & Clinical Workforce Strategy

Bringing more than two decades of specialized operational expertise across the Australian healthcare, allied health, and medical staffing landscapes, Simon serves as Koru Advisory’s specialist workforce advisor. Over a 20-year career across the sector, he has advised and developed large-scale workforce delivery frameworks, built foundational institutional relationships, and guided complex operational models tailored to evolving clinical environments.

Based in Dubai, Simon acts as a dedicated technical advisor on Koru Advisory’s international healthcare mandates. He delivers critical domain advisory, operational readiness assessments, and strategic workforce connectivity between established Australasian healthcare networks and the rapidly expanding public and private health sectors across the GCC.
